Would you enjoy a 4 day week schedule?

Have you heard that some schools are on 4-day week schedule? Well over 2,100 schools in the United States, work on a 4-day week schedule.

As of now, fall 2025, almost 2,100 schools over 26 schools have been on a 4-day week schedule. It has gotten more popular over the upcoming years. The shortened week is more common in rural areas. Mostly in areas to the west of Mississippi River, like Colorado, Idaho, and Missouri. While yes, it is mostly in rural areas, but research shows in the recent years it has expanded to more urban and suburban communities too.

Some of the reasons for this is teacher shortages, student attendance, and cost.

There has been so many teacher shortages, so during that time their district they used this non-monetary schedule to attract and remain staff. It provides a better work life balance for teachers, which is enormously powerful.

When they started the 4-day weeks, the student’s attendance got better. It gives the students a extra day off and allows them to rest a little more. The off day could also be very handy if you have any appointments, it can be scheduled that day. So you don’t have to miss school for it.

It could also help with school costs. If you think about it, you will not have to pay for busses that day, lunch that day, or even power that day. It would save the school on a lot of costs.

A four-day week schedule would have everyone involved. The teachers, students, and even families. It would give the extra day so the teachers can plan, organize, or even grade a few papers. It would help the students by giving them an extra day in case they are missing something, if they want to spend time with their family, or even if they need to get ready for the week of school. It would help family’s a lot also, it would give them a break for extra circular activities, help give the parents a break.
