Should school start times be later or not?
Most schools start at 8:30 or 9:00 but students don’t think that is late enough. If students had a later start time there could be good things about it and bad things about it.
One good thing about it is students would have more sleep, which would help with them not wanting to get up because they stayed up all night playing video games or watching TikToks.
A second good thing is better behavior which would help with students getting ISS or OSS. It would help with their focus in learning.
Third, if kids don’t like school breakfast, it would help them be able to grab something to eat in the morning without being too tired to grab something.
Last, there would be fewer tardies and better grades. Tardies could lead to getting in trouble and getting parents called, and better grades would help with not getting in trouble at home.
Now you might want to know why schools should not start later.
First, some parents have work right after they drop their kids off at either 7:30, 8:30, or 9:00 and would be able to drop the kids off or be there to get there kids on the bus.
Second, some high scoolers have to drop their younger siblings off and it would make them have to rush to get to school.
Third, students wouldn’t have time to do after school activities, and then go home and get ready for bed,
Last, it would not work with some students’ work schedules and cause them to get fired.
So the question is should school start times start later or not?
