Gordon Central Soccer

Soccer is an amazing sport to participate in. Soccer teaches teamwork, endurance, and decision-making skills that can help in other areas of life. It also teaches people how to deal with the ups and downs of life, anticipate possibilities, and work together with their teammates to overcome new challenges. There are also health benefits to playing soccer in terms of physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It helps your physical fitness while also having an impact on your mood, emotions, and mental condition. I thought it would be a fun idea to interview the boys and girls soccer coaches.
Coach for the girls’ team: Coach Muenchen
D.A.: How long have you been coaching soccer?
Coach Muenchen: “This is my first year coaching high school soccer.”
D.A.: What would you like to see his season?
Coach Muenchen: “I would like to see all the players develop and get better at all the skills they need to take our team to the state playoffs.”
D.A.: What do you enjoy the most about soccer?
Coach Muenchen: “I like the competitiveness of soccer and how it brings everybody together.”
D.A.: How do you coach an athlete who is struggling to improve?
Coach Muenchen: “You have to find something they’re good at and keep their head up. Make sure they stay positive and work hard to get better.
Coach of the boys’ team: Coach Wiley
D.A.: How long have you been coaching soccer?
Coach Wiley: “This is the start of my sixth year coaching soccer.”
D.A.: What would you like to see his season?
Coach Wiley: “Region championship, playoff run, home field advantage, and run at the title.”
D.A.: What do you enjoy the most about soccer?
Coach Wiley: “I enjoy being out there like the camaraderie and I love the way the guys interact with each other. I get to play with them, also go out and run around sometimes.”
D.A.: How do you coach an athlete who is struggling to improve?
Coach Wiley: “I’m only able to give them so much. I’m not the fastest person, and I wouldn’t even claim to be the most talented. I’m familiar with the game and how to play it. So, what I do is make sure that we have excellent leadership. When these guys are struggling, depending on their position defense or offense, I’ll send out one of my captains to help them get better, offer them some advice, positive reinforcement, and encourage them to make mistakes in practice. I’ll tell them not to be afraid to take that shot, and I always tell them that, but as far as skills, the captains will join them and let them run around because they respect the guys, which is why I built them up that way.”
