About St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day falls during the Christian season of Lent in which Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate later in the afternoon. The traditional ingestion of meat was abandoned and so people would dance, drink, and feast on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.
Who is St. Patrick?
Saint Patrick (also known as Maewyn Succat) lived during the fifth century, born in Roman Britain. At the age of 16, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave. Later, he escaped and returned back to Ireland. He brought Christianity to its people. It is believed that St. Patrick died on March 17, 461. The myth that was going around about his life had caught the attention of Irish culture. It could be possible that the widely known legend of Patrick is he taught the Holy Trinity which we all know as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – in which he used the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.
The First St. Patrick’s Day celebrated when?
