Help out a hound this National Rescue a Dog Day!

National Rescue a dog day- May 20th

May 20th is National Rescue a Dog Day! This day is used to bring awareness to the countless dogs in shelters awaiting adoption.

National Rescue a Dog Day was founded by Lisa Wiehebrink. She is an author as well as the founder of “Tails That Teach”. Her works center around the connection between humans and animals. Wiehebrink came up with the idea of the holiday after she rescued her dog Cooper and several others in 2009.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (ASPCA), more than three million dogs enter shelter homes every year. Many shelters are overpopulated due to dogs not being neutered or spayed. Sadly, more than one million pets are euthanized every year due to overcrowding.

Honor National Rescue a Dog Day by visiting your local shelter and adopting a dog in need of a home!
