🍂 Pumpkin Spice and everything nice!  🍂

Right between summer and winter is Autumn, more well known as Fall.  Autumn is from Sept 22 to December 21. It’s when animals start to migrate – meaning they gather food and find shelter to stay as winter approaches.

The days get shorter and colder because the sun goes further away from the Northern Hemisphere. As this happens it’s spring in the Southern Hemisphere. Due to this, plants stop making food during winter because there isn’t enough sunlight, which makes plants and trees close their food production systems.

According to Greek mythology, Autumn began because Hades abducted Persephone to be Queen of the Underworld. Persephone’s mother (Demeter) was the goddess of the harvest and she didn’t take the news so well. Her anger and sadness caused all the crops to die on earth until her daughter returned. And when she did return, the crops grew, initiating Spring.

Fun Facts

  1. It is said that people born in Autumn tend to live longer. Almost 100.
  2. Due to leaves stopping their food making process, the chlorophyll breaks down, causing the  green color to disappear and yellow, orange, and red colors become visible.
  3. Pumpkin, sweet potato, and pumpkin spice are mainly used in Autumn to give you a warm feeling inside.
  4. Pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon, pecan pie, and sandalwood are scents that remind people of Fall.
