National adopt a turkey month

November 11, 2022
November is usually known for one thing, Thanksgiving! However, it is also adopt a turkey month. 88% of Americans eat turkey for the holidays, and the 12% that doesn’t could be the ones to adopt and save a birds life.
When you adopt a turkey they live in comfortable housing, and with absolutely no risk of being eaten! This helps preserve the species, and protect them from extinction. Many sanctuaries do all they can for these animals, some even require medical help. Which is where the money goes! Any expenses the turkeys have get paid fo by the people who adopt and name them.
There is three really wonderful places to adopt from. First, we have Farm Sanctuary who has been saving animals since 1986. They have locations in Watkins Glen, NY, Orland, CA, and Los Angeles, CA. Next up , Woodstock Farm Sanctuary , located in New York. Their mission is to save animals from livestock auctions and slaughterhouses. Animals here either get rehoused, or have a fantastic home at the sanctuary. Last, but not least, The Gentle Barn. Who saves all sorts of species from abuse and neglect, also uses the animals for groups of at-risk youth and victims of emotional trauma.
Adopt a turkey month is for everyone ! We hope you’ll consider giving it a chance. Visit farmsanctuary.org/adopt-a-turkey for more information on adopting your very own turkey !
