Polar Bear week

Angelica Soltero

Polar bear week is from October 30th to November 5th. Polar bears are big white hypercarnivores bears who depend on the ocean for food and habitat.

According to scientists, climate change has caused a reduction in the Arctic sea ice. Due to this they have less ice to spend time to get food, to travel, and to mate. Another thing that climate change messes with is polar bears migrating and hunting schedule. After 50 years of observation researchers have started to see a positive in the Arctic. They have seen many moms with cubs and have hope for future generations of polar bears.

It is said that polar bears evolved from brown bears around 1 million years ago. Around 1774 Commander C.J. Phipps came up with polar bears instead of calling them ‘Ursus Maritimus’.
