3 -12 Days of Christmas

Abigail Holbert

“On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me three French hens.” It celebrates the St John the Apostle (One of Jesus’s Disciples and friends) who is the patron saint of love. The three French hens are Faith, Hope, and Love. “This gift hearkens back to 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter written by the apostle Paul.” The 3rd day is the feast of St. John, apostle evangelist.

John along with his brother James, were called “sons of thunders” in the Gospels. On the third day of Christmas, we get three French hens, two move doves, and yet another partridge, six gifts which added to the four from before makes ten so far. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”, “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
