6- 12 Days of Christmas

Abigail Holbert

“On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me Six geese a-laying.” The 6th day celebrates St Egwin of Worcester who is known as the protector of orphans and the widowed and died in 717. He was the Bishop of Worcester as well as the founder of one of the greatest Benedictine monasteries of the Middle Ages in Evesham, England. He was known as a protector and widows as well as a fair judge. Traditionally, the family is where one learns values. This is a great day to take time to reflect upon your family culture.

The six geese represent the six days of creation.  The lyrics for the sixth day of Christmas take us back to the first story found in the bible. Bible verses: the book of Genesis [1:1] “In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth”, [1:2] “The earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters”, [1:3] Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
