This year’s Performing Arts will be facing multiple challenges with the ongoing pandemic. One of Gordon Central’s main goals is to keep it possible to continue GC’s outstanding Performing Arts masterpieces. Although it will be a challenge, the staff and classmates of GC have faith in and will continue to support the Performing Arts students.

“One challenge for the One Act crew is going to be getting the students excited and hopeful about what they will be allowed to do this year.”

  • Kim Waters

“We look forward to defending our region title in One Act competion, currently scheduled for October 28th. “

Matilda, the musical, based on the book by Roald Dahl, centers on Matilda, a precocious 5-year-old girl with the gift of telekinesis, who loves reading, overcomes obstacles caused by her family and school, and helps her teacher to reclaim her life. Through a series of obstacles and complications the story unfolds set to the music of Tim Minchin.

After surviving a tragic and isolated childhood, Amelie heads out on her own, joyfully finding her way through Paris and making friends from all walks of life. Living in her imaginary world of make-believe and whimsy has been safe, but Amelie knows it is time to step out of her dreams and find joy for herself. With a romantic score, colorful characters, and a world of fantastical fun, Amelie is a beautiful tale for the dreamer in everyone. Based on the movie. Amelie is a musical based on the 2001 romantic comedy film with music by Daniel Messe, lyrics by Messé and Nathan Tysen and a book by Craig Lucas.

On a small Greek island, Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding — one which includes her father giving her away. The problem? Sophie doesn’t know who he is! Her mother Donna, the former lead singer of the 1970s pop group Donna and the Dynamos, refuses to talk about the past, so Sophie decides to take matters into her own hands. Sneaking a peek in her mother’s old diaries, she discovers three possible fathers: Sam, Bill, and Harry. She secretly invites all three to the wedding, convinced that she’ll know her father when she sees him. That is just the beginning of the shenanigans of this musical based on the super-group ABBA’s music.
