Last week Gordon Central released the winners of the Young Georgia Authors writing contest. The winners include a student from each grade level.

10th Alexis Herrera- Rose Finch

11th Helena Pate- The Wayfarer

12th Hailee Church- Are You Man Enough?

Young Georgia Authors is a prestigious statewide writing competition for K-12 public school students in Georgia, designed to foster writing skills, celebrate student creativity, and recognize achievement in various genres like short stories, poetry, essays, and journalism. Sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors and the Georgia RESA Network, it encourages students to give their best work and creativity into their stories.

To win the Young Georgia Author contest, students progress through four-tiered levels of competition: first winning at their local school, then advancing to the district/system level, then the Regional RESA level, and finally the prestigious state level with a winner chosen from each grade at each stage.

Our four winners will move to the district/system level and advanced from there with their creativity and words.

When asked what inspired her to write her piece, sophomore Alexis Herrera said, “After my mom passed away, I felt a lot of guilt for not doing enough for her. I tried to be a better daughter, but all my attempts were futile. That is what inspired me to write Rose Finch.”  When asked if she planned to continue to write in the future, Alexis said, “Yes, writing is in my future. If I never become a full-time author, I would at least like it to be a hobby.”
