Out with the old and in with the new, join the color guard! Why play an instrument when you could be spinning and throwing rifles, sabres and flags? Upcoming soon at Gordon Central High School, the Blue Wave Marching Band will be hosting tryouts for their Color Guard. Throughout April 27- May 1 (also with guard clinic days on April 20 and 22) under the guidance of Cameron Born and Sarah Main in room 200, also known as the school band room, the tryouts will begin.
The Blue Wave Marching Band has been around since the 1980s holding many years of football entertainment, practice, directors and close bonds. Color Guard has been an excellent extracurricular hobby for years, providing many boys and girls alike with an interesting skill set and talent to add an extra flare to the halftime show. Color Guard is a time to bond with other students with similar interests, have fun, learn all sorts of tricks with your items, learn multiple dances to do in the stands and perform an awesome routine.
Why should you join the color guard? Well, why not? You get to brag to all of your friends about the cool things you do, free entry to every football game, free trips to other cities and something to do besides sit in bed and doomscroll. Isabella Baza, one of the color guard “veteran” members expressed her love of color guard by saying, “Color Guard is harder than people may think it is. During the summer we sweat countless hours learning routines, fundamentals, and other skills. It creates a whole family, a group of people to laugh with and who care about each other. Small things like bus rides and getting ready is very enjoyable, the excitement and the adrenaline before competitions and games is an unforgettable feeling. But, if you want to try out, believe in yourself and don’t give up easily.” So, what’re you waiting for? Join us!
