Wrestling Warriors

Gordon Central Warriors are doing great this year with a record of 28-2. As well as having an awesome season, they are celebrating an awesome achievement for senior Vance Siburkis–100 wins. Another person that deserves some spotlight is Coach Orr, having been coaching the high school and middle school teams for the past five years, he has seen the team through highs and lows coaching them through it all.

We asked Coach Orr how he felt about the season so far, and he replied, “It’s been good…it’s a little bit unexpected but they’ve risen to the occasion and wrestled well so far.”

Compared to past years, he said the Warriors are doing “A lot better, this is probably the most successful year that Gordon Central Wrestling has had in probably over a decade or so, things are going well.”

About the seniors, Coach Orr stated, “It’s a huge class to lose that are very involved and very reliable, but hopefully the juniors step up and fill those voids.”

The Warriors came in 3rd place on January 10th for the 1A-7 Area Duels at Chattanooga High-School. Although the Warriors did not move on to the next round, 3rd place in Area Duals is an amazing feat that should be recognized.

On January 20th, the Warriors won against Rome High School with a final score of 34-27. Warriors kept the win streak alive as they faced Coosa High School on January 22nd for senior night with a final score of 59-6. As the end of the season nears, the next challenge for the wrestling Warriors will be 1A-7 Traditional on January 31st at Chattooga High School.
