The volleyball program at Gordon Central is getting some new perspective and guidance from Mr. and Mrs. Rusciano as they take on the roles of coaches. Both coaches have been paving their way at Gordon Central; helping and coaching multiple sports such as cheer, basketball, track, and volleyball. Under the guidance of new coaches, Gordon Central is very hopeful for the 2026 – 2027 volleyball season.

With the Ruscianos already participating in many activities, we thought it was important to ask what motivated them to take on volleyball, as well. Mr. Rusiano responded with, “ You know, there’s a lot of culture, we can change the program and a lot of people that can really do something pretty cool. Hopefully, we can win some games and make a name for ourselves in the region.”

Along with new coaches always comes new goals and hopes. When asked what his short term and long term goals are for the team, Mr. Rusciano replied with, “Short term goals, I want to be competitive, competitive in sets and not just get 0-2 and go home early, so I want us to be competitive and at least win one set per game. Long term goals, I want us to be up there with Gordon Lee and fight for a championship and bring something home.”

The last question we asked was what their advice to future and current volleyball athletes is. Mrs. Rusciano responded with, “My advice to current volleyball athletes is honestly to just have fun. We’re really looking forward to having a fun season with the girls, where they build relationships with each other and hopefully get some wins out of it.”

Another exciting thing for volleyball is the Little Warriors Volleyball Camp being held over the summer. The deadline to register is May 30th and the camp is from June 23 – 25, 2026 from 8am to 12:00pm. The fee is $75 and a T-shirt and lunch are provided, as well as an amazing learning experience for kids ages 6-12. Be sure to sign up for the good coaching, fun, and to help out our volleyball team!!!
