NASA--Exploring Space Since 1958

National Aeronautics and Space act (NASA) is the biggest and most successful space program in the world. NASA was founded on July 29th, 1958, and operational by October 1st, 1958. Over 60% of the world’s satellites and landmark achievements coming from them. Other programs may have higher success rates; however, this is because they have only launched fewer and lesser missions while NASA is exploring the moon and mars.

NASA first mission was the Pioneer 1. The Pioneer 1 was launched on October 11th 1958was meant to orbit the moon. This mission was unsuccessful; due to technical malfunctions it only reached an altitude of 70,000 miles before returning to earth 43 hours later. Mercury-Redstone 3 was launched on May 5th, 1961, was the first crewed mission from NASA. This mission mad Alan Shepard the first American in space.

The most recent successful NASA mission was the Artemis 11 mission. This was a 10-day crewed flight around the Moon and returned to Earth in April 2026. This was the first crewed lunar mission in over 50 years, testing many systems and allowing NASA to take high-definition images of the lunar far side.

NASA was first created to compete with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Since then it has grown and expanded, allowing for so many more discoveries then humans ever could have imagined.
