The new Michael Jackson movie, titled “Michael,” is taking the top spot following its worldwide release last month in April.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film follows the life of the “King of Pop” from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his peak as a solo superstar in the late 1980s.
Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s 27-year-old nephew, makes his acting debut in the leading role.
The movie has earned more than $435 million globally since its April 24 premiere.
It features a star-studded cast, including Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller as attorney John Branca.
While the film has been a hit with fans, some critics have called the story “sanitized”. Reviewers noted that the movie focuses on Jackson’s musical achievements but avoids later controversies, ending its timeline before the first public allegations against the singer in the 1990s.
The production faced several delays and reshoots before its 2026 release to adjust the final act of the story. Despite the mixed reviews, the film’s $97 million opening weekend was the largest ever for a musical biopic.
