Vasant Panchami

          As we all know February 14th is most known for the holiday Valentine’s Day, but there is another event today as well, known as Vasant Panchami. The word Vasant means Spring and the word Panchami refers to the 5th day of the lunar fortnight. It is a Spring festival that is celebrated by the Hindu Culture.  

        This festival worships and honors the goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, arts, and learning. Vasant Panchami symbolizes the renewal of nature and the beginning of new beginnings. This festival also signifies the start of the Rabi crop harvesting season. Farmers view this time as a time to start preparing their fields for cultivation.  

         Vasant Panchami is celebrated is multiple states across India such as, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. It is a tradition that the Hindu religion/culture celebrates with, food and gatherings every year on the day February 14th.
