The Sightings at The Lake Pt. 8

The+Sightings+at+The+Lake+Pt.+8

He called himself Malcolm. He was a teen and apparently Fraser’s brother. We didn’t trust him very well as he described the ‘Kelpies’ so thoroughly, as if he was keeping one as a pet! By the time he had finished his cheesy lecture, even Elena was shooting me bewildered looks.

It was becoming increasingly hard to take him seriously. Especially because of the way he exaggerated every single word with strange hand motions.

“We have been on these cases for two months.” I coughed to interrupt him. “The clock is ticking before someone else’s name becomes a news article.”

“I spent an hour on this presentation!” He crossed his arms childishly.

“Neither you or Elena have been of any help. Whether mythological creatures are up to this or not, there are lives at stake.”

I eyed Elena for a few seconds, forcing myself to ignore the fact that my partner was dozing off in the chair across from her. I couldn’t blame him, honestly.

A fellow detective of mine peeked inside, knocking on the door to grab our attention.

“Detective Barclay,” He spoke quietly, “there has been another disappearance.”

I stood up instantly and walked over to take the newspaper from his hand. I skimmed over the article. The new disappearance was a young actress that had moved to the town as an escapism from the stressful life of fame.

“I’ve had enough.” I turned to the others, “All of you are coming to the lake with me tomorrow morning. We will find where these made-up equines are holding those people.”
