Here at Gordon Central, we started the year off with many new policies range from dress code to electronic devices. Cell phones now have to be put inside a caddy. This is because the school administration believes that the phones can be used as a distraction, cheating tool, device for bullying, means for creating “drama” and other disruptive acts. They want to help the students by providing a setting where students can focus with no distractions or worries. If a student is caught with their phone during instructional time it will result in a referral. Many students in the school disagree with the new procedures, however the vast majority of the teachers appreciate the new policies and procedures.
The dress code policies have been changed and will be more enforced. The new policies for dress code include apparel with any reference with any to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sexual or vulgar remarks, racist, or any kind of gang affiliation is not permitted, no sleepwear or loungewear-type garments are permitted either. Students are not allowed to wear or carry blankets as well. Head coverings, hats, caps, sweatbands, or bandanas are not permitted. Shoes must be worn. No house/bedroom shoes are allowed. A new change they have made to the dress code is they no longer permit flip-flops. Another change is garments with holes or tears above the knee which expose skin are not permitted.
To enforce dress code staff members and administrators will correct dress code issues without consequence unless a pattern or noncompliance has been established. Faculty and staff refer non-correctable or repeated correctable dress code violations to administration. Parents will be called, and the student and parent are given the option for a parent to bring a change of clothes prior to administrative action.
A new enforcement that administration has pushed on teachers is to support their students and show up to school related events, including athletics, performances, and art shows. They are also pushing other athletes to show up to the games ad activities of their peers so that we can be seen as tribe. The new principle, Dr. Parker, has come in and pushed our school to become closer and be known as One Tribe. Those are all main changes to Gordon Central High School. Go Warriors!
