Gordon Central varsity football is changing. Quicker than most have expected, the changes began over a year ago when Coach Lenny Gregory was assigned as the head coach of the football team. Coach Gregory has had an extremely positive impact on the team and the school as a whole.
There were some growing pains last year and sadly they finished with a 0-10 record, but the extreme effort and commitment put in by the players and coaches has greatly improved the team. This has been shown in three scrimmages – winning all respectively. Most recently the team had an absolutely dominating win over Southeast Whitfield.
They were projected underdogs and suspected to lose the game, but they proved everyone wrong. The final score of the game was 62-0. This blowout victory was earned with amazing performances from DJ Fleetwood, Jayden Sibley, Luke Payne, and Matthew Streete on offense. On defense the main contributors were Josh Hight, Evan Pearce, Treveyon Bigby, and Riley Thomas. The Warriors dominated on defense with 5 turnovers overall.
The Warriors are projected to win their next game verses Butler by one point according to ON3.
