We all know and love Frosty the Snowman, but when and where did the idea of the snowman originate. Although no ones who truly invented the first snowman, it was believed to have derived in the medieval times. The first ever depiction of a snowman was documented around 1380. It was recorded in a Dutch book of hours, which is a prayer book used in the Netherlands. The snowman was noted as melting next to a fire used in a religious context. Towards the ending of the Middle Ages, the snowman was used as a way to have fun and as a sign of hope for the spring to come. The snowman evolved into a popular icon to people around the world.
