Why is the month of April so important?
It doesn’t just raise awareness it also helps people realize they aren’t alone in these situations. For example, people try to wear teal in honor of those who survived.
What is sexual assault?
“When someone either touches another person in a sexual manner without consent or makes another person touch them in a sexual manner without consent.”
Sexual assault could be anything from unwanted kissing to being forced into something.
How many people are sexually assaulted?
“Over half of women and almost one in three men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes.”
How many people actually get help?
Only 60% will get help.
What do I do if I experience sexual assault?
Compose yourself, immediately call someone who can help you, get help, talk to people, cope, and learn to realize it wasn’t your fault.
How can I support someone who experienced any form of sexual assault?
Be there for them, but don’t push them to share their trauma if their not ready.
