A girl sings about how she’s heartbroken that her partner broke up with her in this song. The album, under the same name, has impacted pop culture significantly since it was released. The lyrics, however, were wildly misconstrued by people who heard it at the time. Spears sings, “Hit me, baby, one more time” in the track. Some people who listened thought that it was promoting domestic abuse, when she really was using slang and saying “call me, baby, one more time.” This created a controversy and caused Spears to change the title of the song and album to “…Baby One More Time.”
