This year, senior Peyton Yarborough is taking the lead in Tonal Combustion, GC’s a cappella group.
When I asked Peyton what being in charge of Tonal Combustion means to him, he said, “To me it means that I get to direct the choir, teach the music, conduct when it’s time for a performance, and I get to lead my friends.” It’s clear that he takes his role seriously, but he also enjoys the chance to share his love of music with others.
Tonal rehearsals aren’t always easy, but according to Peyton, they’re worth it. “When we’re first learning music, the energy is definitely low, but as everyone gets to know the songs, you learn by listening to your section. It can be really stressful at first especially for underclassmen, but once you learn the music, it’s great. It’s high energy and can be really fun,” he said.
When asked why he enjoys being a part of tonal, Peyton said, “I like the music, singing a cappella, Christmas time because of the Christmas music, and the community because it’s a fun environment.”
From teaching harmonies to keeping rehearsals upbeat, Peyton’s leadership helps make Tonal Combustion the amazing group that it is. With all of the hard work and positive attitude, there’s no doubt this year’s performances will be ones to remember.
