The song for today is Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), by singer Annie Lennox and musician Dave Stewart, under the name of the British synth-pop duo, Eurythmics. Released in 1983, it quickly became a smash hit worldwide, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 six months after its American debut. In the music video for said song, Lennox rocks a bright orange buzzcut and a men’s suit. BBC stated that her “powerful androgynous look broke the mold for female pop stars”. In 2020, the track was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and just three years later, the U.S. Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Recording Registry (which is a national registry for recordings and songs that reflect what life and culture is like in the U.S.).
