Groundhog Day

Groundhog+Day

A day that people do not talk about a lot is Groundhog Day. “What is Groundhog Day?” you may ask. Groundhog Day is the second of February every year. The purpose of Groundhog Day is to foretell the weather for the upcoming 6 weeks (about 1 and a half months).

According to the legend, if the groundhog sees its shadow, then there will be 6 more weeks of winter. But if the groundhog does not see its shadow, then spring will be on its way. There is a club who runs this day, and they have their own groundhog that they use.

This club is called The Punxsutawney Club Inner Circle. The Groundhog that they have is named Punxsutawney Phil, but people just call him Phil. Over the past decade Phil has been correct 40% of the time. A.J. Dereume, a member of the club, is the person who takes care of Phil all year.

Groundhog Day has been a tradition since 1877. As you can tell Groundhog Day has been a tradition for a long time. So, what do you think? Do you think Phil is going to see his shadow or not?
